The Canaries at the table: two-star tables, island kitchens and the Bib Gourmand

In depth·Canary Islands

Two-star tables at Abama and La Caleta, one-star kitchens in Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, Las Palmas, Mogán and Playa Blanca, and Bib Gourmand cooking from Garachico to Fuencaliente: how the Canary Islands eat.

The MICHELIN Guide’s Canary Islands selection runs to 60 restaurants across the archipelago (MICHELIN Guide Spain, read 1 Nov 2026). Two hold two stars, both in the south-west of Tenerife: M.B at Abama and El Rincón de Juan Carlos at La Caleta. Thirteen hold one star, from Adeje and Puerto de la Cruz to Las Palmas, Mogán and Playa Blanca on Lanzarote, and ten more carry the Bib Gourmand for good cooking at a moderate price.

The two-star tables

M.B, at Abama in Guía de Isora, and El Rincón de Juan Carlos, at the Royal Hideaway Corales in La Caleta, are the archipelago’s two-star restaurants. La Caleta alone holds four starred kitchens: San-Hô and Il Bocconcino share El Rincón’s address, and Nub, Taste 1973, Donaire and Haydée are close by in Adeje and Playa de las Américas.

Las Palmas

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Poemas by Hermanos Padrón and Muxgo both cook at León y Castillo 227, and Tabaiba holds a star on Calle Portugal. In the south of the island, Los Guayres at Mogán and La Aquarela at Patalavaca complete Gran Canaria’s five; on Lanzarote, Kamezí at Playa Blanca holds one.

Bib Gourmand: the everyday best

The Bib Gourmand marks good cooking at a moderate price. In the Canaries it goes to El Rebojo in Garachico, Furancho La Zapatería in Icod de los Vinos, La Bola de Jorge Bosch in Tegueste, Silbo Gomero in La Laguna, Moral, San Sebastián 57 and El Aguarde in Santa Cruz, El Secreto de Chimiche in the south, El Equilibrista 33 in Las Palmas and El Jardín de la Sal at the salt pans of Fuencaliente on La Palma.

Book the starred tables weeks ahead in winter, the islands’ high season.

Our advice: try the starred tables at lunch, and eat the Bib Gourmand addresses on the days between.
